Just a short list in no particular order (everyone’s got ‘em, figured I should as well). Simply trying to share my joy:
- No reboots
- So far, every peripheral I’ve installed has been a driverless installation
- Multitasking actually works
- Integrated FTP/SSH/Samba/whathaveyou within the file browser
- Wide variety of applications to choose from. All free.
- Development tools under an OS for which they were originally written
- I can mirror our servers if I need to
- I can use “hacker tools” if I need to figure out a problem (nmap, verbose CLI debugging, etc)
- Huge, decentralized support base on the internet
- Amarok is the best music player I’ve ever used
- Gvim for the win
- If I really need to, I can still run PC IE *shudder*
- Some malicious site tried to infect me with something the other day. I laughed and took a screenshot.
- Beryl graphics fun
- I don’t feel as if I’m sucking some corporation’s dick every time I use my computer
It’s been six months since I switch to Linux and I can honestly say that I haven’t been happier with my computing experience. Hooray.
