Just in case any users out there have a laptop like mine or similar, I decided to post info about my Linux laptop so they can be assured that blowing away Windows isn’t a bad move.

The following combination works perfectly

Operating System:

• Ubuntu 6.10 (with Beryl 0.2.1 (AIGLX))

Hardware:

• Dell Inspiron 2200
• 1.4G Celeron (my processor doesn’t have speedstep, so I couldn’t tell you about that)
• 40G, 512M
• Broadcom 4318 wireless card (with fwcutter method, linked in previous post)
• Intel 915gm graphics

Daily Use:

• Rails and PHP development
• Watching DVDs
• Listening to music (w/ Amarok)
• Browsing the web
• Some graphics stuff with Gimp

I love this computer, now. It’s such a joy
