Google reader for the suck

February 23rd, 2007 · 2 Comments

I would totally use Google Reader to manage and follow my RSS subscriptions, but it consistently refuses to update from the following:

del.iciou.us
ma.gnolia.com
any wordpress-based site

Sometimes it shows updates on the left-hand side for Ars Technica, but even when that happens it doesn’t update the right-hand pane list of articles.

I need a suggestion for a different app, I guess. Anyone have any? Either web-based or Linux would be fine.

Update: A buddy of mine let me know the following things:

  1. Some feeds prevent reader from fetching
  2. Some sites (such as del.icio.us) impose a lag on Google Reader to prevent bandwidth consumption

So, it seems that it isn’t Google that is at fault, but the feed providers.

I use Google Reader and I’ve noticed some problems, especially for my own feed in terms of the time lag. Sorry, no suggestions for a different reader. My blog uses WordPress so perhaps that’s the issue with the delay? I also use feed burner for my feeds, just to let you know all the variables involved. Good luck! I’ll let you know if I find a solution.

I’ve only been using Google Reader for a little while and haven’t really had too much of a problem. I have however found that there have been extreme lags from del.iciou.us feeds on other sites so I wonder if it’s more of a problem on their end. As for other online solutions, I’ve heard good things about Bloglines but I’ve not really used it much myself.
