New wallpaper. Thought I’d share. This is inspired by the Longhorn “Bliss” wallpaper, and this cat from this list of amusing cat pictures.
I find the scene oddly pleasing.
Also, I’m starting to turn into a Linux fanboi — mainly from running Xgl on Ubuntu. The visual effects make working fun, and the tools and ease-of-use of the OS and manager make doing things super-easy. Things I like:
- Associating ssh/ftp/samba/etc. connections as file manager locations in Nautilus
- Access to essentially any development tool
- Ease of installing new software and package upgrades
- Multiple desktops
- Cornucopia of free software
- It’s free
- Security updates don’t break crap
- No virus worries
- Sensible security
- Package management finally works well
Things I don’t like:
- Cornucopia of free software. It’s hard to know what’s good and reliable
- Wireless is tricky to set up, sometimes
- Compiling from source can be fraught with peril
- The sources you need to go to for finding information are the sources you need to go to for finding where to look for sources of information. A bit of a catch-22
Overall I love it. Now that I have a working wireless adapter, the only reason I need to boot into Windows is for testing things in IE and playing World of Warcraft. Good stuff!
