A Peaceful Night

June 25th, 2004 · No Comments

The season of explosions is once again upon us — tonight the air is filled with the sounds of fireworks going off. Over the past couple summers I’ve come to the conclusion that several of the residents in the surrounding neighborhood have connections with professional fireworks outfits. This isn’t hyperbole, I’ve seen the starbursts in the sky often enough for me to think that my suspicions are true.

It sounds as if the neighborhood has turned into a warzone. The percussive booms, pops, and crackles are constant at times. It’s a little annoying.

Tangentially, I just messaged a friend stating that it sounds like Beirut outside. Then it occurred to me that only people above a certain age would catch that reference. It then further occurred to me that Beirut is probably quite sunny, harmonious, and friendly now. Weird.

I guess since my apartment is right on a main road across from where cops frequently park, I sort of live in the DMZ
