Masquerade Sans Masq

My name is Jonathan and this is my blog.

I am a software engineer by trade, though sometimes I turn into a mystic hippy. This site is an effort to chronicle and share what I have learned or discovered about art, science, humor, and life. It is also an exercise in improving my writing skills.

This site is one of many iterations dating back to approximately 1996. First it was a crappy website with too many terrible backgrounds and midi music. Then it was a “Thought of the Moment” mailing list with a web-based front-end, then it was a live journal account, and now it’s a blog. The only constants are that the content is semi-random — it concerns whatever I’m working on and thinking about at any given moment — and that I tend to pick domain names which, in retrospect, make me sound like a pr0n site.

Lately I became a father, so I’ll be talking about that for a little while. In addition to that, I’ve been watching and reading a lot of things on human history, development, and cognition; such as Becoming Human and Guns, Germs, and Steel. I’m attempting to coalesce a coherent world-view based on what I can join together from religious history, archeology, philosophy, and sociology. On the less sombre side, I’m also incorporating the idea that people like looking at funny pictures of cats, so that’s sort of the leavening factor, I hope.

I simply wish to share my joy in the life with you, dear reader. I shall endeavor not to rickroll you.

Feel free to contact me if you have any comments, suggestions, accolades, or just want to chat. I’m a nice guy.
