A Parenting Story

Adelaide is 18 months old and is at the stage where she wants to know what everything is called. This is what it’s like.

My daughter does two things when she’s learning names for things.

First she points at the new thing she just noticed, and says excitedly, “oh that!” So we tell her what it’s called.

And then she does the second thing, which is to go “mwah” or “mah” like she’s air kissing in the general direction of the thing. I think she does it to punctuate her learning.

So that’s pretty cute, right?

But then the other day I stepped out of the shower and started hunting for clothes — suddenly Adelaide was behind me.

“Oh that!”
“… uh, that’s daddy’s penis”
“Mwah!”

It’s helpful to have a co-parent to rescue you from awkward situations.

Well, that’s my best LOL in some time. And I like her learning methods, this girl will go far.
