Probably my most boring post, ever.

12:00 PM
Left the apartment. Turned everything off, including heat — which reminded me to call up NIPSCO to pay the gas and electric. $190 (including turn-on deposit from Nov)!

It would’ve been payed already, but we weren’t receiving mail for quite some time,
which included the utilities bill. Sux0r.

My bank has yet to change my address, so getting my debit card to work over
the phone was kind of an adventure.

1:15 PM
Stopped at McDonald’s for food. Also wanted to try the wireless they advertise, but it appears that you have to pay for it. That sucks — I want an open access point for free :( I’ve got the software to try and hack the system, but it’s not really worth it to me. Oh well. This and the previous post are being typed into Scite for later copy+paste into the blog when I’ve got network access.

Only other thing to note: I’ve been playing We (heart) Katamari so much that it’s invaded real life. I’m driving down the road, I see papers or crap or whatever on the highway and I wonder if I’m big enough to roll over it. I looked off to the side, saw a brown and white cow, and thought, “Ooh.. I can get the cow and the fence!”

Also, I’ll reiterate that American Edit is frickin’ awesome. I’ve been rockin’ to it since Goshen.

2:07 PM 125.7 mi
I’m stuck in traffic :( Average speed=20mph.

2:18 PM 126.5
Stop to pee at the refurbed rest stop over Interstate 80

2:23 PM
Leave the rest stop. That soap smells tasty. Tried to get money but it’s been so long since I used the debit card as an ATM card that I can’t remember my PIN. :(

2:46 PM 130.4 mi
FINALLy hit the exit for the Iowa tollbooth

2:53 PM 130.8mi
Pay the toll. You do the math… 0.4 miles travelled in 7 minutes. Stuck in traffic for a total of 47 minutes, just to travel 5.1 miles.

4:14 PM

Stop to pee at exit 75. This is a truck stop I’ve been to approximately 200 times. It’s seen better days, definitely.

I also attempted to get air in my tires, but this benighted exit has NO working air. First place, “The pump’s a little slow.” Second place, put in a quarter then noticed the nozzle is for truck tires — even though it would be impossible to get a truck over to where the air machine is. Third place, some thoughtful person decided to cut the hose in not one, not two, but four different places.

5:57 PM
Open wireless at the very first rest area in Iowa *heart*

It appears to be for their extranet only though *antiheart*

Update: On my second pass through, I saw that their registration only works in IE. Now I’m online!

6:27 PM
Stopped at Walcott, home of the largest (I80) truckstop in the world. Found three wireless hotspots, but they all require accounts. I dream of mesh networks.

8:45 PM 455.0 mi
Finally arrive. There’s no reason this trip should last 9 hours. In non-holiday times it takes 6.5 – 7 hours.

Ah well, at least I got awesome mileage.
